About Alex
The Holistic Mermaid was founded in 2007 by Alex Williams, an accomplished therapist, who first trained in Reiki in 1998 and has since gone on to study and practice both Western and Advanced Japanese techniques of this healing therapy. Alex has taught many students in Reiki I, Reiki II and Reiki Master levels and continues to run courses and hosts a regular Reiki Share Group at the Centre for those attuned at any level with all levels of experience. Continuing to support her students she is delighted to see several of them running their own practices in Cornwall and across the country.
Alex has a deep understanding of holistic wellbeing specialising in physical and mental health as a qualified Mental Health First Aider. She is also a fully qualified Aromatherapist, Reflexologist and Massage Therapist. She draws on her training and experience in a range of disciplines to offer a truly holistic approach to health and wellbeing.
She is passionate about living life Mindfully and draws on her experience and training to run regular Mindfulness for Life courses and believes that living mindfully brings improved health and happiness as we learn to live in this moment, simply being. Her mindful journey began when she was severely disabled by a back injury whilst dealing with personal grief and other life changing events in early midlife. Thankfully now living a pain free and energetic life in her 60s Alex is always happy to discuss how this practice can enhance your life too.
As an Environmental Scientist formerly working in environmental research and conservation Alex has combined these skills and her knowledge to develop her range of Cornish beeswax candles and bespoke skincare range utilising her combined expertise in ecology, environment and aromatherapy as Nature’s Beeswax Cornwall
Alex’s Cornish family name is Trewhella which inspired the name The Holistic Mermaid from the legend of The Mermaid of Zennor. The legend tells the story of Mathew Trewhella eloping with the mermaid and is marked by the Mermaid’s Chair in the church at Zennor.
